Week 6: Making Economies for the Common Good a Local Reality

How to tend better local realities for all in the cracks of a fractured system with Gesellschaft für Gemeinwohl

This week we will explore another lived alternative together with 👨Fritz Fessler, a representative of economy for the common good. Have you ever asked yourself ow our world would look like if it was organized for the beter of all living beings? The folks at economy for the common good took this question and developed a way to move into this reality, safely nestled within the current system, driving change on the ground with real people and their real projects. Next to some fascinating tought leadership, they developed a set of practices like the common good balance sheet which allow organizations to describe their work with more than a financial performance. In Austria, the network established a ‘bank within a bank’ method which allows them to channel the money of their customers directly to real world projects in the region, all stewarded by the common good community. Join us on Thursday at our community call to learn more & get inspired by the global movement.

Another great opportunity will be the Movie screening of Our Planet: Too Big to Fail co-hosted by New England Impact Investing and oikos International. Our economy is fundamentally underpinned by the stability and the resilience of the natural world. But this stability is no longer guaranteed. This 42 minute film explores the risks of inaction, the impact of investing-as-usual, and the role the finance sector can play in powering a sustainable future. We have invited our friends at WWF to join and give any updates on the progress made to change the system, given how close we are to the end of the decade and the efforts happening in the UN COP. Join us for a lively discussion and an opportunity to connect with others concerned with these issues. October 8, 5pm - 7pm CET ( 5pm watch movie together, - 6pm discussion & q&a)

This week, there's also a skill session with Fernando Morales who will introduce us to the secrets of Impact Measurement & Management. Fernando is a Vice President Builders Vision and has years of experience working in the space. Don’t miss this session if you’d like to dive deeper into the topic.

Also, our Peer Action November is coming closer & we want to make sure everybody of you will find a group to work on a topic you're excited about. Make sure to check out & add to our miro board. We'd also love to offer you the chance to connect further on this, opening another round of self-facilitated fellowship socials for you. Those are drop in, unfacilitated spaces to share a coffee & some stories with each other! You might want to use this opportunity to exchange about ideas on the board & find the project you'd like to explore further.

How to organize the social spaces

Self-organize using the breakout rooms that we have created.

In order to be able to open the breakouts, one of you will first have to claim host privileges. In order to do so, use the code 217993 in the participant tab (click 'claim host'). This will let you open up the Breakout Rooms. Be sure to set the breakout rooms to allow participants to choose rooms.
